It has been 5 years 7 months since the introduction of PlayStation 4 till achieving a sales target of 100 million units. PlayStation 4 has crossed that target fastest.

It also surpassed the PS2 and Nintendo Wii in the fastest selling.

Of the 100 million units sold for PlayStation 4, 50 million have been sold in the last three years. It is a natural process to do so after all these years. PlayStation 4 sold 19 million units in 2017.

In 2018, that number dropped slightly to 17.8 million.

New generation play stations will be introduced next year. The name will probably be PlayStation 5 or PS5. It will be a console compatible with 8K graphics, 3D audio, SSD storage and PS4 titles. It will have AMD's third-generation Ryzen-based eight-core CPU. Its GPU will also support ray-tracing graphics.

The Xbox Project Scarlett console will be introduced next year along with PS5. It will also support 8K graphics, SSD storage and ray tracing.
